The tech crew at Plainfield East creates a positive environment that inspires creativity and strong bonds for students involved. The shared efforts of many people working together builds a powerful sense of community that’s incredibly special.
Many think of tech as just those behind the scenes of plays and musicals, but it’s much more than that. Tech builds (pun intended) innovation and creativity among its participants, with many opportunities for students to grow.
Tech director Dave Jackson strives to create a fun and positive environment for students participating in tech.
“We talk from the very beginning about accepting everyone for who they are,” said Jackson. “They create friendships because the biggest thing is that we accept everyone.”
Tech is also an opportunity for students to build real life experience that may come in handy someday.
“I hope that they walk away with some skills and some friendships and that it was fun and worth their time,” Jackson said.
Tech creates a friendly and welcoming environment for all students that want to participate.
“I just think that if you’re a freshman, and you’re looking for anything to do, I think tech’s a great option” Junior Corwin Townsend said.
“Meeting all the people I have and also just feeling more confident in my skills to build things and work. There’s something really special about tech because over time you get to bond with people not just by talking with them but feeling like you accomplished something together” Townsend said.
There are many different ways for students to get involved in tech, making it a versatile activity where many can get enjoyment out of. One such activity is the direction and coordination of the lights.
“Spotlights the kind of thing where you’re very much behind the scenes but you spend time around the people in sound and the other lights people. It’s cool because I feel like lights and sound is its own separate thing from the rest of tech” Townsend said.
Tech has many components that are different and special in their own way while remaining equally important to the production of the shows.
As a whole, tech is an experience that brings students closer together through shared hard work and passion.
