With the school year coming to an end, seniors have mixed emotions about senior decision day. Some are excited and looking forward to sharing where they are off to next after high school.
“I feel excited and relieved about decision day. I know it’s the end of high school, but I’m ready to share with everyone where I’m starting the next chapter of my life,” said Angie Suchoski, senior.
On the other hand, some seniors are focusing on the negative attributes that come with decision day.
“I’m stressed and nervous for decision day. It’s scary to think about getting closer to the end of the year and leaving for a completely different school. I’ve made amazing friends and connections to teachers for four years, and to not see them in my daily schedule anymore is going to be a huge adjustment,” said Claudia Raz, senior.
Seniors at Plainfield East High School face the pressure of choosing a college when having multiple acceptances from many colleges. Many elements come into play when deciding what college they are choosing.
“When deciding which college to go to, it’s hard because there’s so many factors that go into making that decision. The most important thing for me is the support from my parents and I need to make sure the decision is right for my family and me. Money is a second huge factor that can make or break my decision between the final colleges on my list. Also, making sure I love the campus the college has is very important because that’s where I’m going to be for the next four years of my life,” said Janani Venkatachalam, senior.
Students face the decision of whether to go to college out of state, facing the choice of staying close or venturing to new places. They weigh factors like distance, opportunities, and the excitement of experiencing something different.
“What was an easy decision was deciding to leave the state for college. I chose to go out of state because I feel like it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to start a new adventure. Going to a new school, meeting new people, and learning new things is all that college is about, especially when leaving out of state for college,” said Alexis Anderson, senior.
With senior decision day quickly approaching, seniors are realizing that it marks the beginning of the end.
“Decision day is around the corner, and the realization hit me that this is my last year at Plainfield East. Despite the stress of school, Plainfield East has given me unforgettable friends and experiences that make me wish I would have valued it more. It’s going to be hard to leave a place that helped me become the person I am today,” said Edwin De La Cruz, senior.
As seniors come to terms with the reality of saying goodbye to Plainfield East, the anticipation of college awaits, turning the page to a new, exciting chapter in their lives.
