One of the largest school events each year is homecoming, and along with that comes the homecoming court and royals, one in which includes East Side News’ very own senior Daniella Torres.
Q: Did you plan on running or were you nominated by other people?
A: I did not plan on running! When I first got the nomination form I actually threw it away before my friend said we should run together, so I had to get another from Ms. Rivecco. So really, that’s the only reason I even did it was because my friend convinced me. I was nominated as a joke, my friends and I were just messing around saying, like, “oh I’m going to nominate you.” Look where it ended up!
Q: How did you plan on getting people to vote for you?
A: We made a video getting people to say stuff to promote us and saying they’d vote for us. We got Ochoa and Jackson in there too, so that was cool. We also posted every day, and we used Fast and Furious quotes because the friend I was running with is my cousin (kinda), so we made it like “oh vote for your favorite cousins!”
Q: Was it a surprise winning homecoming court?
A: It was! I didn’t expect it because there were a lot of people running for court. It was an epic experience; it was so senior coded. I wasn’t expecting to run at all, and when I [initially] won for court and my friend did not, I was going to drop, but I’m glad I joined forces with Ryan, and I was so shocked we won.
Q: Is there anything you would like to add?
A: I had so much fun at homecoming with all my friends! Thank you everyone for voting for me and Ryan for Hoco royalty!
