The Plainfield East pep assembly has always been a highlight of homecoming week, a day for the school to come together and flaunt their skills while having some fun.
Student council senior leader, Ollie Wojczynski, defines the pep assembly best, as “It’s not just about the games themselves, but how we strategize and unite using those games too.”
The first new game was Tube Toss, a game of teamwork, speed, and accuracy. Won by the Junior’s; players used pool floats, such as hoops to toss onto another player, which when completed, the player with the floats must run to a cone and back without losing the floats.
This game was followed by a fantastic performance by the Bengal Cheer team, sharing one of their newest routines.
Next was the return of a fan favorite, Tug of War, a game that needs no introduction. Each team brought their best, but the return of last year’s Junior team led to a quick defeat.
Between rounds of Tug of War, the Dance Team followed cheer’s lead in giving the school a wonderful performance.
After Tug of War, BALC student announcers introduced another new game, mattress slide. With an inflatable mattress, players had to take turns running and leaping on the mattress with the goal to move it as far as possible. The game ends upon reaching the opposing cone, with the teachers sliding in for the win.
During the set up for the next game, a new mini game was hosted: the Cup game. Two students were picked to participate in this Simon-Says styled game. Players must follow the announcer’s instructions, and once “cup” is said, the players race to be the first to grab the cup, with the win being given to sophomore Nyiah Baker.
With the second to last game prepared, the new game was introduced, that being Dress to Impress. Each team was given a roll of toilet paper with a collection of various props centered between each group. Teams were timed on who could dress to impress, with first place being awarded to the seniors.
The last game was another fan favorite, but with a change. Rather than waiting for the music, “musical chairs” became “hoop chairs” with the requirement to shoot a hoop to sit; this game was won by the juniors.
“At the end of the day, we’re all Bengals and part of one Bengal family,” Wojczynski said.
