Enjoy the moment while it lasts. Everyone gets stressed from time to time but you should enjoy it while you can because it won’t last forever.
I would say to really get involved because time actually goes by fast and enjoy your high school year, meet new people.
Don’t just do what your parents tell you to do with your life. If they try to push college, trades, the military, etc., but you don’t want to go down that path, don’t do it. It may seem scary to confront them, but this is your life, and you gotta do what you want to do.
As a senior I have learned many lessons throughout the years. One thing I do wish is to be more involved in the clubs that the school has. Make sure you don’t lack in your class such as not turning in your homework and not studying. One advice I have for the incoming freshman is to take it day by day because in a blink of eye it’ll be over and everything will be memories.
I suggest taking dual credit over AP if you have the chance, dual credit classes are usually easier because they are introductory and you directly get college credit.
You don’t have to respond to everything. Not every comment made was meant to hurt your feelings and not everything everyone else does is a slight against you. Sometimes things just happen and they might suck and they might be unfortunate but you don’t have to put that frustration on others. At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to live our lives, not ruin each other’s.
Join clubs and extracurriculars because they make every day so much better and brighter. They give you something to look forward to and they give you so many friends that you would not have made otherwise.
Always be yourself. Being yourself makes high school so much more enjoyable. Freshman year was scary for me. I was always anxious to talk, and did not have many friends because of how quiet I was. However, sophomore year came around, and it clicked to me that no one will judge you for how you act, and if they do, you know that at least you’re having a better time than them! What I’ve learned is, if people don’t like you for being yourself, be yourself even more and you will find the right group of people.
Upcoming freshman should stay on top of their assignments, making sure to stay productive in school and turn in work daily to avoid falling behind and risk creating bad habits. Procrastination is not a joke. It takes away a lot of your potential. To be more successful or to make the most of your time at East, try to participate in after school activities and clubs. Remember to attend the musicals and plays and support the sport teams at their matches. Participate in school assemblies and spirit weeks. To be less stressful during your high school years, let me tell you everything will be okay, no matter how things may seem at any time or moment, you’ll be fine. Do your best, keep a high bar for yourself, and make friends.
Something I wish I would have known as a freshman was to get close with your teachers. They’re all incredible and supportive people, if you ever find yourself struggling or need to talk to someone, they are there for you. Advice to all the freshmen: Have fun and don’t take your high school years for granted. You’re not going to get this time back and you only are a freshman for a year, so every year make the most of it. There’s nothing wrong with being a good student. Everyone wants to see you succeed and achieve many things, so put in the work and remain consistent. Be happy. You got this! Have a great day.
