The best game for two players currently is a game called Split-Fiction. Split-Fiction came out earlier last year in March, with its targeted audience being teens and young adults. Split-Fiction is about two game authors who were called in by a big corporation to get published by them. In the contract they signed up for, they get to do an experiment where they can travel into their subconscious. This story is only for two players; So, unfortunately, no trios or solos in this game.
One of the main characters, named Mio, gets frightened by the machine and accidentally goes into another writer’s pod; her name is Zoe. As they try to fix the mistake Mio made, they find a rift, or glitch. This rift helps them listen to the real world.
This is where they find out that this big corporation has ulterior motives. The corporation is stealing a group of author’s ideas via the machine they were hooked up to. The publication the authors were promised was nothing but a lie in order to steal all their ideas.
As the story progresses, we learn more about Zoe and Mio. Mio is a sci-fi writer who is antisocial and a bit mean in the beginning. Zoe is a fantasy writer who tries to be kind and fun for others. We find that Mio’s father is in the hospital, and Zoe has a twin. Both of these minor characters helped the main characters find what they love writing about. The story of Split-Fiction is mostly about family, an allusion to David and Goliath (David and Goliath is a story in the bible about an underdog, named David, fighting a more powerful opponent, which is the Goliath), and found family.

Split-Fiction has lovable jokes and characters that make the game enjoyable. However, there are some drawbacks: it was hard to get attached to the main characters, and the plot was easy to figure out in the first 5 seconds. The story and visuals are beautiful, along with the mini story lines you can find throughout the game.
The creators of Split-Fiction made another multiplayer game a few years ago called It Takes Two. It’s about two parents being turned into dolls because their daughter was sad that they were going to be divorced. Their daughter turned them into dolls by accident, and now the parents are trying to find their daughter to change them back. While they are on this journey, they learn how to love each other again, and while their relationship isn’t perfect, they do learn how to love each other again. The stories between split fiction and ‘It Takes Two’ are different, but there is a theme of family, and found family. It Takes Two and has been out longer than Split-Fiction, but it’s a good game. Most love it because of its visuals, diverse stories in a larger story, there are minigames you can play, and you can see the parents slowly fall back in love again. You can play local co-op or online. It Takes Two costs around $40; while split fiction is around $50. Both are definitely worth a play.
