As the playoffs are winding down, the city of Chicago is not after the insane Bears playoff run. Eight major professional teams across five different sports make sports a cornerstone in the Windy City. These teams have all come together to help support the city of Chicago during a time of celebration.
The regular season was huge success with new coach Ben Johnson. They had a record of 11-6 and had a total of six comebacks all in the fourth quarter One of their most famous comebacks was against the game on December 20, 2025 against Green Bay Packers with a Hail Mary pass to DJ Moore to win the game. This caused excitement to grow throughout the city with the possibility of the playoffs. The Bears made it into the playoffs for the first time since 2020. They played the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round and won on a huge comeback after being down 18. Big Chicago sports names like Pete Crow Armstrong and Angel Reese came to support, and Chicago Bulls player Matas Buzelis came through the tunnel before his game with a orange sweatshirt and a Bears letterman jacket to shows his Chicago spirt.
After they beat the Packers, the city was gearing up for the game against the L.A. Rams on Sunday, January 5. Famous Chicago brands like the Weiner Circle, a famous hot dog stand in the city, and Lou Malnati’s showed their support by posting on social media and displaying funny messages. Even Soldier Field released a cocktail called “The Wire” which paid homage to Caleb’s signature pre-game ritual of a Starbucks matcha and his wired headphones. This added a aspect a humor to what was going to be a nerve racking game for Bears fans all over the city.
At the game, Chicago showed up with around 60,235 people facing temperatures of 19 degrees and wind chill of -2. The crowd was electric, singing the famous Bear Down song as their team faced the cold. They played a great game with yet another Hail Mary pass to Cole Kmet to tie it and allow it to go to overtime. The Bears tragically lost by an interception by Caleb allowing the Rams to kick a field goal to win in overtime, but the fans still gave him a standing ovation, thanking him for leading them to the playoffs.
This may seem like the end but Caleb wasn’t done yet. After all the support that Chicago showed him he returned in full. He was spotted at a Chicago Blackhawks game with Pete Crow Armstrong, to support Blackhawks player Conner Bedard. He was then spotted again courtside at a Chicago Bulls game to support the team that had shown support during his playoff run. He was given a standing ovation at both games, showing what it truly means to be a Chicago athlete.
Even with this loss, businesses are continuing to play into the narrative. The Weiner Circle held a Caleb Williams look alike contest with people coming from all over the city to compete. The winner took home a trophy and the sense of community only Chicago can offer.
This playoff run showed what sports mean to the city of Chicago. It brings people together and gives the city something to support everyday. These athletes and fans are proud to live here, and show how Chicago is more than just a city. We will have to wait until next year to see what Caleb Williams and the Bears do, but the city will be ready for it.
