On Sunday, Jan. 25, the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos faced off for a chance in the Superbowl. The Patriots won with the help of their defense, and of course Drake Maye the Patriots quarterback.
There were many factors that affected the play of both teams. The Broncos star QB Bo Nix injured his ankle last playoff game against the Bills and Jarrett Stidham filled his place. The last game Jarrett started was Jan. 7, 2024 with the Broncos. The Denver weather also came to play, with temperatures of -20 and snow causing sight to be nearly impossible. This did not affect fans, who faced the freezing weather to cheer for their respective teams. Drake Maye stated that the game was “ A battle of the elements” and kicker for the Patriots, Andy Borregales told the media “What an atmosphere out there.”
The Broncos got the ball first and scored a 6-yard touchdown thrown by Jarrett Sidham.
In the second quarter, the Broncos made their way down the field, but on 4th and 1 RB RJ Harvey got the ball, but couldn’t make it due to the Patriots defense. Drake Maye took this opportunity to rush a touchdown making it a tied game before halftime. The Patriots got a field goal in the third quarter making it 10-7.
The Broncos kicker then missed a field goal from 45 yards. It soon became the Broncos’ ball again and the Patriots intercepted the ball and got a first down to secure the win. When asked about the first down by Drake to win, Garret Bradbury stated “I hit my block and all the defenders started running the other way. I’m like what? Oh my God.”
The Patriots pulled through the game with an outstanding performance by both Drake Maye and the defense who stepped up when they needed it most.
When asked about their performance today and what they need to do for the Superbowl, Drake replied with “ We’re going to play better. I’m just so proud of this team…it took everybody.”
The Patriots will play the Seattle Seahawks with Sam Darnold and notorious Seattle defense on Sunday Feb. 8th for Superbowl LX.
