With the girls tennis season being between August and October there are many people who have finished off their time with high school sports. One of these women being a doubles player, senior Nicole Zafiratos.
“When the season ended I was thinking about all of our fun practices where we all just laughed and had fun,” said Zafiratos.
Despite the season being over there was much for her to look back on. Before playing tennis, Zafiratos had played basketball for seven years and softball for two years, but had to stop because of injuries. Even so, these injuries couldn’t keep her from playing sports.
“I joined tennis because my mom wanted me to do a fall sport and I didn’t want to do volleyball. I’ve already played tennis a few times, so I was like, okay, I’ll do tennis. And that’s the only sport I stuck with,” said Zafiratos.
Even with having originally joined because of it being a fall sport she still had fun playing and improving throughout their games.
“[She’s improved] with her serves. At the beginning of the season her serves were not the best, but by the end she was hitting aces,” said sophomore teammate Lillian Neubauer.
Zafiratos has made not only improvement with her serves, but an impact with her team mates as well.
“[Working with Zafiratos] it’s great. I mean, she always makes you laugh, she’s such a great person… it’s really great to have some of those friends who are really honest with you,” said Neubauer.
The time Zafiratos has spent on Plainfield East’s tennis courts may be over, but the positive impact she brought to the court and her team is not.
“I think Nicole is a great person, and she is my favorite senior, and I’m really sad that she’s leaving,” said Neubauer.
