Camila Khatib has achieved a lot in her four years at Plainfield East. She gets involved in many different activities and clubs. Khatib has been a part of the yearbook from her sophomore to senior year. As a sophomore, she was a regular member, her junior year she was an editor, and finally, her senior year she was an Editor-in-Chief.
She has also been a peer mentor from junior to senior year. She joined the Student Council as a freshman, and from junior to senior year, she was a leader.
Also as a freshman, she decided to take on tech crew. After two years of building and painting sets in plays like “James and the Giant Peach” and “Dracula” as well as the musicals “Shrek: The Musical” and “Tuck: Everlasting.” She became an assistant stage manager her junior year, finishing her career with “Frozen: The Musical” her senior year.
She had been a part of leadership P.E. from junior to senior year, where she helped out the SCORE program during her gym period, perfectly in line with her dream of becoming a special educator. She also joined many honors societies in the back half of her high school career, including National Honors Society, National Art Honors Society, and Mu Alpha Theta.
She led her team in Battle of the Books her junior year as team leader. Her senior year she explored her future as a teacher, joining Plainfield East’s Future Educators Club. Being a part of many diverse groups at East has provided Khatib with immense perspective during her four year high school career.
“My top three are tech, StuCo, and yearbook (not in that order), they are all tied for 1st,” said Khatib.
Being a part of these clubs and activities gives her cords, scholarships, and great additions to her college resume. She will be attending Illinois State University, one of her dream schools.
She will be majoring in special education with minors in psychology and elementary education in Normal, Ill. this fall. Khatib will take what she’s learned from her extensive involvement as a Bengal into not only her college career, but as a future educator as well.
