What’s up bengal broskis,
I’ve always said I hated writing and reading books after fifth grade because of my team’s battle of the book question, “In which book did they hear the crinkle of a potato chip bag.” And while that mostly remained true I found myself at the journalism table during step up day, reckon it was to talk to Mia Graske and because Rayne Branch having been running the booth as well had on a cool outfit, it remains one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I’ve been a part of East Side News for the last four years, and while my main job was making the cartoons I’d say I had the most fun when I was able to do the interviews and Bengal Broadcast. Being able to talk to so many people and getting to know their thoughts on many different topics was a lot of fun, but even more so when filming and being able to laugh at every mistake and watch some of the funniest people do the most random things behind the camera will always be something I cherish.
But along with the memories of course I can’t leave without thanking the people who made every moment possible. To the juniors, thank you for always making me laugh. I know y’all will be the leaders of a strong program next year and people the others can look up to. To the sophomores, though there aren’t many of you, thank you for the fun stories y’all shared. I’ve seen how much y’all care about the stories y’all write, and I know the great work y’all have done and how you all carry such strong potential in what y’all do. To the freshman, thank you for joining journalism and bringing all the energy you do. Though I haven’t had much time around y’all, the amount of memories y’all have given me certainly isn’t few and I can’t wait to see the work you do in the future.
To the seniors I’m glad I had these years as a benign part of this with you. Thank you to Dominic even though I would often clown you, the work you’ve done has been amazing and I appreciate all the work you’ve done as Editor-in-Chief. Thank you to Luna for coming along with Sadie and I as we would drag you to the clubs we wanted to join. It’s been so much fun and I always enjoy your use of sarcasm and how real you are. And thank you to Sadie, I can’t imagine having done this without you. From being with me at the journalism table during step up day to finishing our time here I’m glad it was you who have been here since day one, and I’m so proud of you for everything you’ve done. While our ESN senior class is small, there’s no other group of people I would have rather gone to state with.
Most importantly, thank you to Ms. Galvan. Even though I started journalism with Mrs. Munsie, I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of the years and ending my time in this program without you. Your honest and energetic energy has been something I looked forward to every day, and I’m glad that joining journalism gave me the opportunity to meet and get to know you.
Goodbye to whoever may read this. My senior quote was supposed to be when Shawn from Boy Meets World says, They had no right to pass me. I am an idiot.” But now that they have and I have to leave I hope you enjoy all the following days to come.
Goodbye especially to East Side News. To all the people who made this possible and the memories y’all have given me. There is really nothing that can express enough what all of you have meant to me, and I hope going forward you all have the most wonderful lives because it’s what you deserve.
This is Jasmine signing off.
